Esophageal cancer is the most common tumor of esophagus
Risk factors are
1. More common in male
2. Alcohol
3. Smoking
4. Gastroesophageal reflux and Barretts esophagus
5. Obesity
Symptoms
1. Dysphagia (more for solid than liquids)
2. Weight loss
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is confirmed by endoscopy and biopsy
Staging
Treatment
1. Surgery is the best treatment for early esophageal cancer
2. Advanced cancers are treated by chemotherapy and radiotherapy and surgery
3. For metastatic disease, esophageal stent can be placed for palliation of dysphagia
