About
We are Braincast, a new startup originating from Ben-Gurion University. Realizing the magnitude of the coronavirus crisis, we decided to divert all our ongoing activity to use our technology to develop a system for diagnosing Corona remotely for isolated people (home or quarantined) and enabling intelligent and effective triage in cooperation with the authorities. Braincast is utilizing a unique algorithm devised at Ben Gurion Cyber Research Center, enabling us to apply human knowledge on unstructured time series data to find meaningful patterns, discover new unknown patterns and explain the patterns found in an understandable human language.
Product
We are currently developing a Telegram chatbot, which will help people in isolation to self-diagnose the Coronavirus. We will collect general information based on the WHO questionnaire alongside a continuous collection of measurements such as fever temperature, blood pressure, changes in health conditions. The bot will provide the user with a continuous corona risk score as well as recommendations. In parallel, we are working with different authorities in Israel to provide them access to the collected information to help in faster and efficient triage in cases of overload on the healthcare systems. Many doctors and technology experts have volunteered to join our efforts to achieve the goal of initial user testing planned for early next week, where our goal is to start distributing it to people at home starting from the end of this month.
Current Status
We plan to launch the first version of the chatbot towards the end of this week (28th of March). We gathered a group of volunteers from different disciplines helping us to achieve this goal, starting with Drs up to marketing and technical people. The initial knowledge we modeled for the first version aimed at answering the question of what is the risk of being infected and whether the patient should contact the authorities for getting a test.
What's next for Corona Check
Next week
We plan to iterate on the first feedback we get from users and fix bugs as well as improve the scalability of our architecture. We will also translate the bot interaction into English and will open it up for anyone else in the world. Once the English version works well, we will add other languages such as French, Italian, German, Spanish.
The weeks after
We plan mostly to update our knowledge models based on new knowledge discovered in the world as well as try to discover knowledge from the data we collect and make the bot smarter. We are reaching out to different authorities so they can know our data is available for them for a smarter triage. We are also open to collaborating with other researchers for more knowledge discovery. In Figure 2 we present the basic knowledge extraction flow. This flow allows us to rapidly keep up with new knowledge discovered by the community and apply it directly on top of the patient data using Braincast patented pending technology.
